The House of Stories in Curaçao
Since 2017 Wintertuin Curaçao organizes literary projects for elderly citizens in close collaboration with local writers and partners. Kurá di Kuenta is the Curaçaoan version of Het Verhalenhuis (House of Stories), a talent development programme in which young writers help elderly people recollect and document their stories. Over the course of five to six months the participants meet weekly to get inspired, tell stories, listen and write about themes such as love, magic and lotteries. The project aims to combat loneliness and depression through connecting people with each other while at the same time safeguarding our immaterial cultural heritage.
The first three editions of Kurá di Kuenta involved inhabitants of senior homes. The second phase of the project started early 2020 and focuses on independently living elderly people from different neighborhoods.
