Nieuwe Types is the festival for new literature. In the last week of June every year we take a close look at the current state of the story. For three days we draw attention to the newest generation of writers, new stories and new forms of storytelling. Come and see! For more information see the festival website nieuwetypes.nl

The State of the Story

Every year we ask a maker to proclaim de Staat van het Verhaal (the State of the Story). A so called sermon on the mount on the developments in the wonderful world of literature, journalism and spoken word. P.F. Thomése did it in 2015. Alex Boogers followed in 2016 and Micha Wertheim in 2017. In 2018 it was in the hands of Marjolijn van Heemstra and in 2019 the honour fell to Maxim Februari.

Nieuwe Types Graduation Prize

In 2019 the Nieuwe Types Graduation Prize was awarded for the fifth time. The prize goes to the best final literary work from a Dutch or Flemish writing course. An independent jury, consisting of Jibbe Willems (theatre maker, adaptor and translator), Persis Bekkering (reviewer and writer), Pete Wu (De Gids) and Ellen Van Tichelt (deBuren) judged the texts anonymously. The winner received a sum of money sponsored by CB, a publication in the literary magazine De Gids and a performance at the Wintertuinfestival.
