In Solitude choreographer and dance maker Ruben Chi shows the great heights and depths of silence and solitude, both as a human being and as an artist. In 2020, the world came to a halt. In this silence the only thing that remains is your own voice. Do you listen or do you walk away?
In Solitude, nineteen-year-old hip-hop / battle dancer Bjoley ‘Pairodme’ takes you along into his inner journey. An expressive and kaleidoscopic hip-hop dance solo on what emotions and confrontations shape within yourself during solitude. And reveals the power that resides in the confrontation with your own silence.
Without great solitude, no serious work is possible – Pablo Picasso
Ruben Chi is a movement artist and choreographer, a neo-pioneer within the Dutch dance scene. As an interdisciplinary artist with roots in hip-hop, he constantly explores the boundaries between movement and music. He is also a five times-in-a-row winner of the dance competition Juste Debout Holland. Through his foundation SoulCypher, Ruben is building a sustainable hip-hop dance community in his city Arnhem. Transcending, inspiring, daring and culturally diverse with a touch of rawness.
